I love Jeff Verszyla. KDKA has always been my go-to channel for their news. The hometown advantage won me over at an early age, probably because it's the channel my parents and grandparents always chose. But in my heart of hearts, I watch because they seem less cheesy and sensational than our other two network choices here in Pittsburgh and because they were (after all) the first radio station. How can you not love that history?!
But I will also admit, that my loyalty to @Verz (yes, I follow him on Twitter too) is in part of our common bond. We are both Allegheny Gators and I can't help but think that one day, years before I was living in Meadville, he attending a parties at The Barn and loved Springfest with all of his heart. If I ever met him, these would be the questions I would ask him. And then we'd compare notes about the doppler radar and I'd ask him if knew that the person who invented the wind chill was also an Allegheny grad.
Does anyone else have this sort of loyalty going on in their house?Even with someone other than Jeff? Or is it just me who is the lame one? Please, please, tell me I'm not crazy.

Shan-you are not crazy. In Erie the parental units will watch WJET news and only WJET news. When God forbid there is a sporting event delaying or preventing the news from airing my ma goes into a ranting rave about hating sports and how there should be channels just for sports so she can see "her" news. When I try to point out there are channels like ESPN but networks like to air sports for ratings and ad money she tells me they will loose ratings since she isn't watching and that she has a right to a sports free zone. Switching tatics I try to explain the news will air on time on NBC and CBS the 'rents tell me they "don't like those people, they are weird" (the other newscasters) and my mother buries herself behind the paper rattling it and sighing discontentedly. So you aren't the only one with news loyalties.
I'm a channel 4 action news girl. Sally Wiggin(s) is my fave fave fave. I also like Stephen Cropper and miss Don Schweneker (or however the hell you spell it) all the time. Georgene actually prefers the ridiculousness that is WPXI. She thinks it's hysterical - especially Amy Marcinkiewicsz (or however the hell you spell it). Admittedly there is a lost of idiocy to laugh at. As far as grannydom goes - we're right there with you. In fact - just a few weeks ago when the temps were frigid - Georgene and I found ourselves in a sorry state on a Friday night. Bundled up with lots of slipper socks, blankets, granny sweaters and Georgene (in the recliner)even with a knit hat on - we sat and watched Elvis Live on Tour while I knitted away. Our age was definitely skewing towards 90 at that moment. And always remember - there is absolutley nothing wrong with putting your pajamas on at 6 o'clock!
I LOVE VERZ!!! As you know, he went to my HS, too. My Senior year, he was the MC at our fashion show fundraiser and I have a bunch of pics with him. He also judged our MADD/ Prom Promise door decorating contest and I have pics with him then, too.
I'll only watch KDKA, too. Patrice King Brown is my girl! (She is also very nice. Her step daughter goes to the school I used to work at and when she was enrolling, Patrice and I spoke on the phoone a few times. She told me that AC is the most expensive school in PA. Did you know that???) Between Patrice and @Verz, no other stations stand a chance!
